A gang of robbers assaulted a man in a targeted attack and stole cash from his home.

Four men went into then house on Painthorpe Lane, Wakefield, at around 2.20pm on Tuesday.

They threatened and assaulted a 41-year-old man before stealing cash.

The victim’s family members witnessed the attack but were unharmed.

Police said the men then got into a four door black saloon vehicle and left the scene.

All four suspects are believed to be in their early 20s.

Det Insp Dave Rogerson, of Wakefield CID, said: “I believe this to have been a targeted attack and has clearly been very distressing for the victims.

“This incident has occurred in the early afternoon when there will have people going about their daily business and I am certain someone will have seen something.

“I would appeal to anyone in and around the area of Painthorpe Lane who seen the men acting suspiciously or getting in to the black car to come forward. Enquiries are ongoing.”
