Give kids a gift this Christmas

Just two weeks in, and already the mountain of food that we need to achieve our target of helping 1,000 needy families is starting to grow.

Once again, this year we will also try to include a child’s gift - so we are now asking readers to donate sweets, toys or games, stocking fillers, art materials or toiletries. The gifts can be for babies right up to teenagers. They should be packed into a gift bag (not in the hampers) with an indication of the age range and if it for a boy or girl.

The Community Awareness Programme and the Rotary Club of Wakefield Chantry will make sure that all the gifts are distributed to underprivileged youngsters.

Our appeal has also received backing from The Ridings and the 13th Girl Guides in Wakefield.

Sara Hassan, marketing manager at the Ridings, said: “The Ridings is pleased to be supporting CAP in its Christmas appeal, and through partnering with other local businesses, we will be raising money and much needed hamper items in the run up to Christmas.”

Kim Finnerty, from the guides, said: “After visiting CAP recently and the girls seeing how much good they do for the local community, the members of the troop are really keen to be involved again in the appeal.”

Donations of food and gifts should be dropped off at CAP, Market Street, Wakefield before November 25. The food will then distributed by the Early Help Hub network, which has sites across Wakefield, Pontefract, Castleford, Hemsworth and South Elmsall.
