Army bomb experts say a hand grenade found during a house clearance in Horbury was not dangerous.
Police cordoned off an area between Westfield Road and Clifton Road earlier this afternoon.
Acting Insp Mark Chamberlain said the bomb disposal team attended and deemed the grenade to be a non-viable device that was in no danger of exploding.
People who were evacuated because of the bomb scare have been allowed to return to their homes.
Acting Insp Chamberlain said: “I sincerely thank all residents and affected motorists for their understanding and patience which has allowed us and the military to conduct our necessary duties in order to minimise any risk to yourselves.”
