And an outline planning application which was submitted to Wakefield Council in April has now been validated - meaning the public can have their say.

Wakefield Grammar School Foundation (WGSF) announced in March that it planned to re-develop the site for both its pupils and the community.

It has previously agreed a deal to buy the derelict site from Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Under the £15m planned development, which could take 10 years to be built, all the Northgate hospital buildings would be knocked down and replaced.

WGSF has drawn up plans for a sports hall, swimming pool, performing arts facility, outdoor sports areas and additional teaching space at the site.

The public can leave their thoughts on the proposal on the Wakefield Council planning portal website until Friday, August 5.
