Have your say on Wakefield Council swimming pools

Wakefield Council is reminding people they only have a few days left to help shape the future of the district’s leisure services.

The council is running a public consultation to get the views of local people on the facilities it runs. Minsthorpe Swimming Pool closed last year as it needed major repairs and the council is currently considering proposals to shut Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley pools after a district wide leisure review revealed an over-provision of facilities and further necessary repairs.

The council also runs Sun Lane and Thornes Park in Wakefield and pools in Normanton and Featherstone.

The consultation was launched in July to gauge public opinion before a final decision is made.

Views from the consultation, which closes on August 12, will be used to form a report for the council’s key decision makers later in the year.

Coun Les Shaw, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “We are reminding residents that there is still time to have their say on leisure facilities in the district. We want as many people as possible to take part so that we can provide the best for residents in light of increasing financial challenges.”
