A SCHOOL has been closed after a fire broke out in the staff room.
Firefighters were called to Havercroft J&I School at 11.30pm last night (Tuesday).
Crews from Wakefield and Hemsworth Stations took two hours to tackle the blaze.
Wakefield Watch Commander Mick Ferries said: “There was quite a lot of damage to the kitchen area within the staff room and extensive smoke damage to the rest of the building.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Year 6 pupils at the school, who were due to sit their SAT exams, have been relocated to Havercroft Children’s Centre.
