It could be the plot of a feel good Hollywood blockbuster: a young actor who goes from a small town in Wakefield to starring in a US movie.
Nathan Shaw’s journey from being head boy at Ossett Academy to walking down the red carpet at a glitzy film premiere in Los Angeles is his dream come true.
He has landed a part in Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters which also stars well-known actress Joely Richardson.
The 23-year-old was given the full celebrity treatment at the premiere of the film on Tuesday evening.
He said: “I was lucky enough to be cast in the role of a ‘Dhampir’ which is a half vampire, half human.
“We were filming last summer in London just before I moved to Hollywood.”
The film is described as a fantasy adventure comedy movie.
It is based on the 2007 best-selling novel Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.
The sound track features songs by Katy Perry, Goldfrapp and Chvrches.
Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters is expected to released in the UK later this year.
Nathan is currently studying at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy College of the Performing Arts in Los Angeles.
After leaving Ossett Academy in 2007, he trained at Phil Winston’s Theatreworks for three years specialising in professional dance and musical theatre.
He moved to London where he was cast in films and dramas, including E4 comedy Drifters, before heading to the States.
