Hospice thanks community for support during floods

The hospice experienced flash flooding which has hit the ground floor including the kitchen services and communal areas.

Staff issued a plea for the community to help with the clean up last night and say the community response has been overwhelming.

David Stewart, Chief Executive and Gordon Tollefson, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, last night thanked everyone from the Five Towns community and beyond for helping to get the water under control, dealing with clean up and helping to ensure that patient care remained top priority.

Amanda Jubb, assistant fundraiser at the hospice, said: “We have lots of volunteers here this morning who are helping with the clean up.”

Sandbags have been donated throughout the night and there are more due to arrive.

“We have secured meals today for all the patients.

“The insurance company is coming out next week to assess the damage.

“The community response has been absolutely overwhelming and we would like to thank everyone for their support.”

A Wakefield Council spokesman said all roads affected by the floods have now been reopened.
