The pupils mocked up their own royal wedding ahead of today’s event, complete with bunting, union flags, a three-tier cake and Haribo ring sweets.

Deputy head Andrea Rosamond said: “It was just such a brilliant event and the weather made it perfect. We even had pink lemonade fizz to toast the bride and groom

“If the real wedding tomorrow goes half as well as as ours it’ll be fantastic!”

Each of the children, at Netherton Junior and Infant School, was given a role for the day, from bridesmaids, to parents of the couple, to the bride and groom themselves.

Mrs Rosamond said: “It’s been quite a big job putting everything in place but it was so worth it to see the children’s faces.

“They absolutely loved it, they’ve been so excited all week for the wedding. They fully immersed themselves in it.”

Television coverage of the big event begins at 9am and the ceremony itself will take place at noon.
