Inquest into boy’s death

A BOY died after being hit in the head and stomach, an inquest heard.

Coroner David Hinchliff opened the inquest into the death of five-year-old Haroon Danyal Bhatti yesterday in Leeds.

His father, Pazeer Ahmed, 34, is currently on remand after being charged with his son’s murder at the family home on Aberford Road.

The hearing was told that Haroon was pronounced dead after being taken to Pinderfields Hospital on January 23.

Mr Hinchliff said: “A provisional cause of death is that of severe blunt force head and abdominal injuries.”

The coroner heard from Det Supt Paul Taylor, of the homicide and major inquiry team, who is leading the murder investigation.

He said: “I can confirm that a man has been charged with murder in respect of this matter and will appear before the crown court in due course.”

Mr Hinchliff adjourned the inquest pending further inquiries.

l Pazeer Ahmed appeared at Leeds Crown Court on Monday.

He did not speak during the short hearing and did not enter any pleas.

The Recorder of Leeds, Judge Peter Collier QC told him he would face trial in September.
