Inquest opens into death of schoolgirl Amelia Wake

Amelia Wake, from Rothwell, was in collision with a Blue Ford Focus on Bullerthorpe Lane in Colton,

The incident took place at around 4.45pm on Monday, May 30.

Coroner David Hinchliff said: “I am told Amelia appeared to run out in front of the vehicle.

“A collision with the front end caused her to sustain head injuries.”

Garforth Academy pupil Amelia, who was born in Pontefract in 2002, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

Her condition deteriorated and her death was confirmed on the paediatric intensive care ward at 12.47am on Tuesday, May 31.

The hearing was adjourned pending the outcome of further enquiries.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident.
