Inspectors give Wakefield boys schools an excellent rating

Two independent boys schools are celebrating after inspectors praised both seniors and juniors as being excellent in all areas.

The Independent Schools Inspectorate visited both Queen Elizabeth Grammar School’s senior and junior schools in November last year.

The report rated both schools’ academic attainment, pastoral care and extra-curricular activities as “excellent” and praised the “significant strengths of the schools.”

Inspectors said pupils’ attainment was “excellent in relation to national age-related expectations” at QEGS Junior School. It also found the lessons were planned with an understanding of how boys learn best.

The i newsletter cut through the noise

The report praised QEGS Senior School for the quality of pupils’ achievements which was said to be excellent. The inspectors also highlighted the pupils’ attitude.

QEGS Junior School teacher Louise Gray said: “QEGS Junior School is delighted with the excellent outcomes obtained in all eight areas of the recent inspection.

“We are very proud that the school’s aim of ‘engaging boys in an exciting range of stimulating boy-centred opportunities’ was recognised and applauded in the report.

“We look forward to providing the boys with more exciting opportunities in the future, which the recent purchase of the Clayton Hospital site will undoubtedly bring for QEGS Junior School.”

QEGS Senior School headmaster David Craig said: “In an age when inspections can be very formulaic, it was great to get such a glowing report. I am especially pleased for the boys, who do indeed take great pride in their school.

“This underpins everything we do and the successes we enjoy.”
