Inspectors put nursing home in special measures

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) told Minster Care Management Limited that they must make urgent improvements at Attlee Court in Normanton to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its residents.

A surprise inspection in June found the home was short staffed and just one employee was responsible for 16 residents during the night.

Inspectors deemed the service was not caring after observing incidents including a resident left in wet trousers after spilling a drink.

The home, which looks after 52 people, was also criticised for having a poor standard of hygiene.

Inspectors found residents’ armchairs were stained and their cushions were dirty with debris.

CQC’s deputy chief inspector Debbie Westhead said: “The provider is failing to meet the basic needs of the people. It is unacceptable that they have allowed the service to deteriorate in this way.”

A Minster Care spokesman said they are working with the CQC to urgently address all matters and a new manager is now in place. She added: “The safety and wellbeing of residents is our priority and we hope the actions taken will allow us to come out of special measures as soon as possible.”
