Crews from Kirklees and Pontefract were called to a fire at a car garage in Bradford last night (Tuesday).
Fifteen cars were on fire at Bradford BM Ltd, Priestman Street, at 6.30pm.
Pumps from Batley, Cleckheaton, Pontefract, Fairweather Green, Bradford, Idle, Shipley and Rawdon attended and used one hose reel, two large jets, three ground monitors and three positive pressure ventilation fans to extinguish the flames.
Around a third of the building was alight and the roof collapsed. As the building is located in a residential area there was a exposure risk from three sides of the property, but firefighters managed to contain it.
Environment Agency staff attended due to large amounts of smoke over the residential area, and Bradford Council’s emergency planning officer and structural engineer officer attended because of the collapsed roof.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
