Large scale seizure of drugs and illegal tobacco in Wakefield city centre

A large quantity of cannabis and illegal tobacco were found in a car parked in Wakefield city centre.

Police forced entry into the car, which was on Small Page Yard just off Westgate, at 5pm last night after receiving a tip-off.

Insp Ian Williams said: “We will continue to act on the intelligence passed to us by our communities. In this case we have recovered a large quantity of a Class B drug and kilos of illegal tobacco.

“Whilst this may not seem like a serious crime to some people, cannabis is a Class B drug and illegal tobacco dodges tax which means that everyone else pays a higher rate of tax whilst the criminals line their pockets with their ill-gotten gains.”
