Last chance to apply for Wakefield Council apprenticeship

Young people who want to bag an apprenticeship with a nationally recognised programme have only a few days left to apply.

The Wakefield Council initiative has 38 posts available for a variety of jobs, including a gas fitter, painter, road worker, youth and community support worker, civil engineer or ICT technician. The scheme is open for applications until Monday, April 4.

Joanne Roney, chief executive, said: “I want to encourage young people to think seriously about applying for an apprenticeship. It is a great way to start your career. Apprenticeships aim to raise skills and aspirations as well as reducing unemployment. This is a route which offers young people opportunities to learn and develop skills that will help them throughout their working lives.”

The council is the only local authority in Yorkshire to be named in the Top 100 employers for apprenticeships in the country.

Apprentice Chloe Slater, 19, said: “I applied for an apprenticeship after leaving college because I wanted to learn and earn at the same time. I’m following a structured programme which is interesting, and is giving me strong skills to help me to develop and grow my future career.”
