I WAS absolutely delighted and overwhelmed to see so many local residents brave the cold wet evening to attend the Local Development Framework meeting last Thursday night at the Tetley Stadium.
The strength of feeling from the people of Dewsbury, Batley, Tingley and Gawthorpe was such that having originally planned to host the meeting in the Royal Suite, the turnout of close to 600 people meant we were forced to open the main stand.
To all the local people who turned out and contributed to a potentially historic event, I would like to express my gratitude and say a major thank you on behalf of the group.
I would also like to express my gratitude and thanks to our guest speakers, Simon Reevell MP and Robert Bamforth from Kirklees Community Action Network, who were on hand to help answer residents’ questions about the proposed Chidswell development.
In addition a big thank you to the staff at Dewsbury Rams for agreeing to open the main stand and for stewarding the whole event so professionally and ensuring ever safety was paramount.
Finally, thanks to the members of the group who worked tirelessly delivering thousands of leaflets, erecting protest signs and encouraging everyone to attend the meeting.
Without the hard work of each member of the group Thursday’s event would not have been possible.
It sends a clear message to Kirklees Council that the local residents do not want Chidswell, an area of outstanding natural beauty, decimated by these reckless development plans.
We do not want this green belt destroyed and the leaders of the council must now act upon our opposition.
I invite everyone to attend a mass rally and march scheduled for Saturday November 12 at 10am, meeting at the Huntsman pub near the Chidswell Farm Shop so the voices of opposition are heard before the November 23 full council vote.
