Letter - Gratful for education

I REGRET that Mr Kelly and his ‘echo’ have such unhappy memories but judging by the information in their letters, their education seems to have been of benefit to them.

At a time when corporal punishment could be given by any teacher in most other schools, and was given regularly, the Jesuit system was to appoint an official to such duties.

Happily I, and many fellow pupils in the 1950s, have much more pleasant memories. We are proud and grateful for our education by the Jesuits, whom we hold in the highest regard, and are appalled at a totally misleading picture of school life painted by these older pupils.

Most of us are very active members of our local churches and the local community and we hope to carry on with our good works for years to come.
