Letter - Great man sadly missed

IT was nice to see a tribute to Dennis Parkinson in last week’s Express.

I bought a motorbike off Dennis for £159 in 1968, from his dealership on Ings Road.

Dennis won the Isle of Man Manx grand prix five times, and after he had finished racing he sold his 500cc Manx Norton for £650. Years later a friend of Dennis’ told him that his bike went to auction and sold for £21,000.

During the 1960s Dennis had the Aston Martin DB5 which was featured in the James Bond film Goldfinger on display in his showroom. He also had the BSA motorbike which fired rockets, which was featured in Thunderball on display.

I think it would be nice if people of Wakefield remembered Dennis and laid a plaque in memory of him - he was well known in Wakefield over his lifetime. A great man sadly missed.
