Letter - Plea over atrocious road conditions

When, oh when, are the council going to attend to the atrocious condition of the road surface in Westgate between the Smiths Arms public house and the Waterloo public house, a distance of around a quarter of a mile?

This is an outbound feeder road for the city to the motorways and it resembles a first world war battlefield, motorists and cyclists having to negotiate sunken drain covers, severe potholes and and broken surface material.

We cannot blame the recent frosts and severe weather for this situation, due to the fact that this stretch of highway has been in this condition, not for weeks or months, but for several years with just the odd patching up taking place.

I was amazed to witness last week the construction and maintenance of the central reservation which obviously takes precedence above the condition of the public highway.
