LETTERS - Fears over green land

AS I, along with thousands of fellow motorists, attempted to negotiate the huge traffic jams around Wakefield on Monday last owing to a major accident on the M62, I did wonder to myself how much worse it would be if the major house-building projects, many on green belt and greenfield sites, proposed in the council’s Local Development Framework, were to go ahead.

I understand the potential highways and transport problems which would undoubtedly occur in places like Wrenthorpe and its environs (on Monday traffic was queuing from the city centre back into Wrenthorpe itself) were somewhat glossed over in the LDF document, and indeed ignored Highways Agency concerns regarding the huge increase in traffic which would be the inevitable result.

Perhaps Wakefield Council may now do the sensible thing and write to Eric Pickles MP and say “Can we have our document back please, we’ve finally come to our senses and need a major rethink”.
