The Cribs have been announced as the headline act for this year’s Long Division Festival.

At tonight’s special launch event organisers revealed The Cribs will play their first public hometown show in seven years.

The band will play at Unity Hall on the opening night of the festival kicking off a full weekend of music, art and comedy across the city centre.

The Cribs’ singer and bassist Gary Jarman said: “The last couple of years it’s been pretty difficult not to have been aware of Long Division, even on a national level.

“Wakefield really seems to be standing up on its own now when it comes to the arts, and Long Division is an important piece of that.”

The festival line-up was announced with a launch party event at independent record store Wah Wah on Brook Street.

Dean Freeman, organiser of Long Division Festival, said: “With new venues and new dates, this year’s Long Division feels like a fresh start.

“We’re thrilled to have our biggest venue yet with Unity Hall and to finally have The Cribs back in Wakefield is something we have been striving for years.”
