M1 crash woman stable

A WOMAN who was left fighting for her life after a crash on the M1 motorway is in a stable condition, police have confirmed.

Drivers faced severe delays after the incident between junctions 39 and 40 at 4.30pm yesterday.

The Suzuki Vitara the 35-year-old woman was driving swerved across three lanes of the motorway and crashed down an embankment.

She had to be airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary suffering from life-threatening injuries.

A male passenger who was also in the car suffered minor injuries.

Police are investigating.
