M1 near Wakefield to be closed overnight

Sections of the M1 motorway near Wakefield will be closed as works to upgrade the carriageway into a ‘smart motorway’ continue.

The Highways Agency is carrying out works to upgrade the stretch of road between junction 39 at Durkar and junction 42 at Lofthouse to ease congestion.

The scheme, which is due to be completed by September, will see hard shoulders become permanent lanes during peak times.

- Thursday, January 22 - junction 42 southbound entry slip road closure

- Friday, January 23 - junction 41 southbound exit slip road closure - (24-hour closure)

- Friday, January 23 - full closure southbound between junction 40 and junction 39

- Saturday, January 24 - full closure northbound between junction 41 and junction 42

- Saturday, January 24 - full closure soutbound between junction 40 and junction 39

- Sunday, January 25 - full closure northbound between junction 41 and junction 42

- Friday, January 30 - full closure northbound between junction 39 and junction 40.

All closures will be in place from 8pm until 6am unless stated.
