Maintenance work is being carried out on the support columns of a bridge near Ferrybridge.
The bridge carries the M62 over the A162 at junction 33.
Contractors for Highways England are removing and replacing some of the columns on the bridge.
And they will be carrying out extensive concrete repairs to the column in the central reservation on the A162.
The A162 has been closed in both directions at the junction and a short diversion takes drivers off the exit slip roads and then back on the entry slip roads at the roundabout.
Contractors started the maintenance work on Monday.
Highways England project manager Tim Calvert said: “We understand that this will cause some disruption for motorists who use the A162 but it is necessary to enable this essential maintenance work to be carried out.”
The project is expected to be completed in May 2016.
