A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a stand off with police in Normanton.
Police were called to a disturbance in the early hours of Sunday morning at a flat on Smirthwaite View.
Officers were confronted by a man armed with knives on the first floor balcony at around 3.30am.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “The body of a second man could also been seen on the same balcony.
“The armed man made threats to officers and prevented the emergency services getting to the apparently fatally injured man.
“Negotiations commenced and the body was recovered at 4:09am. The suspect was then arrested at 4:24am.”
The male victim, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, a 21-year-old local man, was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.
