A man has completed a 10k riding on his mobility scooter.

Ian Deakin, 65, set out on his trek from Middlestown to Huddersfield this morning.

Despite having a chronic back condition he wanted to raise awareness and funds for Hope For Justice, an anti-human trafficking organisation.

He said: “I have heard some horrendous stories about people being forced into modern-day slavery.

“I wanted to help but knew I was limited to what I could do and I had never heard of anyone doing anything like this.

“I just wanted to raise as much money as possible for this very worthwhile cause.”

His 10 k journey began from his home on Thornhill Road and finished at Waterloo, in Huddersfield.

Mr Deakin completed the feat in 1 hour 50 minutes despite having to stop to change a battery.
