Man rescued from Wakefield river

A MAN was rescued from the River Calder during the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters were called to called to the river, close to Chantry Bridge on Doncaster Road, at 00.13am today. (Friday)

When they arrived the man was waist deep in water.

After specialist water rescue crews got him to safety the man was taken to Pinderfields Hospital for treatment.

Firefighters from Wakefield, Leeds, Rothwell and Normanton Stations were all involved in the rescue.
