Men injured in two early morning street robberies

Three men were assaulted and robbed of their mobile phones in two separate incidents in Wakefield.

Both robberies happened on Saturday July 23 in Doncaster Road in the earlier hours of the morning. 

The first incident took place at the junction of Doncaster Road and Sugar Lane at around 3.05am. A 23-year-old man was walking along when she was approached by another man from behind who assaulted him by kicking him to the floor.

A second man also assaulted the victim causing injuries to his face. The victim’s mobile phone was stolen from his jacket pocket. 

The first suspect is described as white male, late 20s to early 30s, of slim build with short blonde/brown hair and wearing dark jeans and a blue zip up jacket.

The second suspect is described as a white male and medium build. 

The other incident happened around an hour later at 4.09am, when two 22-year-old men were walking over Chantry Bridge and were approached outside the Hepworth Gallery and assaulted and a mobile phone was stolen.

The suspects then ran off along the canal near to the Ruddy Duck pub and out of sight. 

They were described as white, around 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins and average build. One of them was wearing a black Adidas hoodie with blue stripes. The second was wearing a jacket with red sleeves, with a red upper half and blue lower half. 

Detective Constable Holly Speight, of Wakefield CID, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed either of these incidents or was in the area at the time and saw either of the suspects to come forward to help with our investigation.
