SEVERE cold weather will strike this week, according to the MetOffice.

Temperatures in Wakefield are expected to drop below freezing on Tuesday night, and brisk winds could make it feel as cold as -5°C on Wednesday morning.

In an amber alert issued this morning, the MetOffice said the conditions “could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services”.

It has been forecast to stay mainly dry but with slight snowfall on higher ground.
