Mini rappers used music to tackle bullying

Youngsters at Wrenthorpe Primary School have been using rap music to get their message across for anti-bullying week.

School Council member Millie Barnes, nine, came up with the idea and threw down the gauntlet to the classes who gave Kanye West a run for his money.

Teacher Sally Mayman said: “We had the most amazing week at school focusing on bullying. The School Council worked together to arrange a competition to see who could create the best rap giving key messages about why we don’t bully here at Wrenthorpe Primary School. At our school we say ‘No’ to bullying. We all loved this challenge and worked hard as a team.”

The musical initiative saw nine classes, aged five to 11, perform their rap routines in assembly. The School Council whittled it down to a shortlist of three teams who faced off last Friday afternoon. The winning class was 1S, which has children aged five and six. The runners’ up were 3/4D (ages seven to nine) and 6R (Children ten and 11).
