More bands announced in Long Division line up

More than forty bands have been added to this year's Long Division line up.

Leeds punk legends Gang of Four, The Membranes and Mercury Prize nominated Sunderland brothers Field Music are among 41 new names which will play the festival.

Dozens of artists sent in their music to festival organisers to be considered for the stage, including Habberdash, Jack Winn, Yawning Dog, and Milk Crimes.

The groups join Glasgow alt royalty Bis, DIY stallwarts Los Campesinos!, Chemikal Underground’s De Rosa and Leeds post-rock band Her Name is Calla.

The festival, now in its sixth year, brings independent, up-and-coming musicians to Wakefield.

But this year it was under threat due to a lack of funding.

More than 100 people pledged £7,500 to ensure the music event returned to the city.

Supporters include Sheffield record label DMF Digital, Hide and Seek Records, who will run their own stage, and The Ridings, who will be featured on festival wristbands.
