A van driver had to be cut free after his vehicle overturned and wedged against a tree.

Firefighters were called the crash scene at Denby Dale Road, West Bretton at 12.37am today (Saturday).

Crews from Ossett, Skelmanthorpe and Cleckheaton attended the accident.

A fire service spokesman said: “The vehicle was wedged in trees. It had actually rolled onto its side and wedged itself on the tree.

“We cut the roof and door away. He managed to walk out of the vehicle. He was very lucky.”

The spokesman said the man’s visible injuries seemed “remarkably light” but he was taken to Barnsley Hospital via ambulance in case of internal injuries.
