A HAIRDRESSER who found a ‘sea monster’ staring back at her when she tucked into a snack pot has had the mysterious creature identified.
Emma Padgett, 19, was about to tuck into her £1 tub of prawn cocktail last month when she noticed something among the Marie Rose sauce.
A baby fish head, its eyes, teeth and whiskers were looking back at her from her fork.
The Co-op, which produced the snack, has this week apologised and sent £25 in vouchers and confirmed the creature was a two-horned sculpin fish.
Claire Moore, colleague at Stylehouse hairdressers in The Springs, complained to the company on Miss Padgett’s behalf.
She said: “We are just happy they have found out what it was. They said the fish can be found on the sea bed and are usually picked out if they are collected with the prawns.”
Miss Padgett of Newton Hill bought the tub from the Outwood store.
A Co-operative Group spokesman said: “Since receiving this complaint our supplier has increased the visual on line checking of the product on site and our technical team has worked with them to ensure they are doing everything possible to prevent a reoccurrence of this incident.”
