A SURGE in new shops could make for very happy Christmas shopping.
A total of 21 new shops are planned to open into the city centre.
Trinity Walk and the Ridings shopping centres will be welcoming new shops and commercial agents Vickers Carnley has just agreed to lettings of 12 units in the streets on and around the Bull Ring.
Lee Carnley, of Vickers Carnley, said: “Wakefield is definitely back on the radar and is being talking about in retail circles.
“Rather than the negativity in the city we should all start supporting this wonderful city of ours.”
The 12 Vickers Carnley lettings include Cinnamon Lounge, A-Z Essentials and a coffee shop.
Trinity Walk’s additions are set to include clothing retailer Infinities, a Peter Jones gifts store and cosmetic store Lush, which opens on Thursday.
Barclays, H Samuels and the Handmade Burger Company are also coming to Trinity Walk during next few months.
Susan Mendoza, Trinity Walk centre manager, said: “These are fantastic additions to the selection of products in the centre, just in time for exciting rush of Christmas shopping.”
But with 95 per cent of its units thriving, business at the Ridings is not far behind Trinity Walk in its uptake of new store lettings.
Wakefield Wildcats, Past Times and That’s Entertainment have all recently opened stores in the Ridings, and Calendar Club and Hawkins Bazaar have grabbed Christmas leases.
