New village plan for Ackworth

Ackworth Parish Council hopes to shape planning developments in their village by forming their own neighbourhood plan.

The project means villagers will have more of a say on future developments going ahead.

And it will ensure planning applications are developed in line with what the community wants.

The neighbourhood plan could take up to two years to complete and the parish council wants to work alongside people living in the village.

Ackworth Parish Council chairwoman Sarah Balfour said: “The basic intention of a neighbourhood plan is to do with future building developments in a community.

“We want the plan for Ackworth to include all aspects of the life of the village – transport, education, medical facilities, leisure, in fact anything that residents feel is relevant.

“We intend to set up a steering committee with a wide membership and to seek opinions from all residents about what they want for the future of Ackworth.”

The parish council formed a steering group to set out proposals for the future of the village at a meeting on Monday, October 12.

Coun Sarah Balfour and councillors Phil Davies, Elizabeth Ford and Harry Malkin are part of the new committee.

The neighbourhood plan application will be considered by Wakefield Council’s planning and highways committee next month. To share your views on the project log onto www.ackworthparishcouncil.gov.uk or call Ackworth Parish Council on 01977 611583.
