Next phase of £5m Bretton Hall redevelopment approved

Bretton Hall Partnership Ltd can now create six, two-storey office pavilions as part of the £5m regeneration of the Bretton Hall campus, in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

The whole renovation will see the historic Grade II*-Listed mansion house extended and turned into a 120-bed hotel, with restaurants, a bar, a spa, wedding and conference facilities.

In April 2017, bulldozers moved on site to demolish former student accommodation blocks at the site, which was run as an educational institute until 2007.

Bretton College opened at the hall in 1949 and for decades offered teacher training as well as courses in art and design, music and performance.

In 2001, it merged with the University of Leeds, which it remained part of for six years until its closure in 2007.

The buildings were sold to Wakefield Council, who is now working with Rushbond, parent company of Bretton Hall Partnership Ltd, to regenerate the site.

Once complete, the development is expected to create around 100 new jobs.
