No threat to safety after reports of gunman in Stanley

POLICE have said there is no risk to public safety after reports of a man suspected to be armed with a gun in Stanley earlier today.

Officers were called to Canal Street at 9.21am this morning (Monday) after being alerted by a member of the public.

The West Yorkshire Police helicopter was scrambled to assist in a search but nothing was found.

A spokeswoman for the police advised people to remain calm and said no threats to public safety had been made.
