Oops ...developer puts wrong signs on Horbury by-pass

The signs appeared on Sunday saying the A642 Northfield Lane would be shut from tomorrow (July 29).

Residents took to Facebook group “You Know You Have Lived In Horbury When...” saying they were confused by the signs.

Some said they were worried they would not be able to drive to or from their homes and others were concerned about traffic queues through the town.

The road is the main route connecting the city centre to Horbury, Horbury Bridge, Middlestown and Netherton.

Others speculated that it may be a prank.

Wakefield Council have said the signs were put in place by mistake.

Graham West, the council’s service manager for planing, transportation and highways, said: “We can confirm the A642 Horbury bypass is not going to be closed. And we are sorry for any confusion caused to residents when an incorrect sign was put in place by the housing developer.

“The signage will be changed to let residents know that temporary traffic lights on the A642 will be in operation for four weeks from July 29, while drainage pipes are laid across the bypass from Wakefield Road on behalf of Harron Home Ltd.”

Harron Homes is the developer for the new housing estate being built off Wakefield Road.
