Letter: Visual appeal needed at the Hepworth

"I was not surprised to read Richard Taylor’s letter in the Express regarding : ‘the grim structure that has arisen near the road at The Hepworth Wakefield.

I’m sure many local residents and visitors to The Hepworth will agree with his comments.

My own view is that the wall looks very unsightly and has clearly cost a lot of public money which I would suggest could have been better spent providing an attractive landscape border hedge.

A border hedge would also provide a haven for wildlife, help absorb CO2, filter out air pollution and reduce traffic noise.

I think the public money saved by not providing the ‘prison style’ wall could have been much more usefully spent on going towards the cost of providing much needed flood defences, planting more trees or providing accommodation for the homeless.

I hope the funding sponsors of the unsightly wall scheme spend their money more wisely in future.
