Prior to re-opening, the council has worked with businesses to discuss their plans for traffic management in order to limit the impact of congestion on the district’s main roads.

But with another busy weekend expected, both the council and the police will be working together to monitor the traffic situation and residents are being asked to check before they travel for possible congestion by logging on to https://one.network/

Coun Matthew Morley, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for planning and highways, said: “As businesses begin to reopen, we are expecting them to be busy and some congestion is inevitable.

“However, I would ask residents to check before they travel for any traffic issues and avoid long queues. If you do find yourself in a queue, please drive carefully and be patient and considerate of other motorists.”

It is important that people should not leave home if they are unwell, as they should be following the 7-day self-isolation guidance, or if a member of their household is unwell and they should be following the 14-day stay at home guidance.
