Ossett Town pay tributes to former chairman Graham Firth

Former Ossett Town FC chairman and president Graham Firth has died at the age of 64.

Mr Firth, whose 40-year association with the club included a 28-year stint as chairman, passed away on Tuesday following a short illness.

Mr Firth stepped down as Town’s president two years ago but was also a groundsman and continued to work in the bar at the Prospect Road clubhouse, a role he retired from only last week.

He played a major role in helping Town climb out of the Northern Counties East League into the Evo-Stik Premier Division in 1999 and contributed to major improvements in the club’s stadium and facilities.

James Rogers, his successor as chairman, paid tribute to Mr Firth and the effect he had on the club and everyone involved at Ossett Town.

He said: “He was the heart and soul of the club and he meant a great deal to a lot of people.

“He was Ossett Town through and through.

“He did just about every job at the club, including getting the club promoted from the Northern Counties East into the Evo-Stik, and he pulled us together.
