Louise Peel, a support worker, came up with the idea back in 2014.

And after collecting a total of 300 she then went on to donate more than double that figure just 12 months later.

She is now targeting a four-figure donation to hand over to children in time for December 1.

She said: “This is the third year I’ve done it now.

“Most of the donations to start with were from friends and family, but since then it’s been word of mouth mostly, that’s helped get the message across.

“The first year I got about 300, last year I got 700 and so this year I’ve targeted a thousand.

“We thought we would do it again and try to better last year’s total.”

Her husband Phil has provided plenty of support and the duo even came up with the catchy name ‘Peel’s Appeal’.

Phil said: “She thought it would be a nice idea to take calendars down to various children’s homes and centres.

“It just sort of snowballed really.”

Louise says the challenge of improving on the 2015 total is one that she is determined to conquer.

She said: “It’s exciting to do, for me personally.

“Having an advent calendar is something that I think so many of us take for granted.

“If it can bring some joy to disadvantaged youngsters, then it’s worth it.”

Once all the calendars are collected, Louise and Phil will then transport them to various refuges, homes and children’s centre in and around West Yorkshire.

Anyone wishing to donate an advent calendar to boost Louise’s appeal, should email [email protected]

Calendars need to be donated by Monday, November 28 at the latest.
