The hub would occupy the site of the former Kellingley Miners’ Welfare Club and provide a café, meeting space for community groups, a sports area and business and digital area.

Members of Wakefield Council’s cabinet will be asked to approve the funding and £50,000 of annual funding to support running costs and upkeep of the building, when they meet on March 24.

Coun Michael Graham, cabinet member for resources at Wakefield Council, said: “We have listened to people’s views and I believe a hub would be a great asset, enabling people to take part in activities including sport and health-boosting initiatives as well as access to advice and support to help build work skills.”

The cabinet is due to meet on March 24 at 10.30am at Wakefield Town Hall.
