Lorraine's story began in January 2018 when she was referred to hospital with a suspected cataract, but on January 22 she had her left eye removed due to a rare condition.

She said: “It was ocular melanoma, the tumour was too big so I had to have an operation to have my eyeball removed.

“It really made me appreciate everything.

“I have a cancer nurse and it doesn’t matter what time I contact her she answers me they still try to make you smile and lift your spirits.”

Lorraine has now volunteered to join the NHS army to show her appreciation for all the support they provided her with.

“Regardless of what I am asked to do, I am more than happy to help, I am fit and well at the moment so I am happy to do whatever is asked.” Lorraine said.

“Everybody needs to step up and help, but it is nice to see everyone getting involved and to see people helping where they can.”
