Litter being left at the beauty spots has increased in recent months as more people look to head outdoors for the summer weather.

Last year, Wakefield Council launched a successful campaign to encourage people to stop the drop and start a litter pick me up.

In the next couple of months, the campaign will focus on asking everyone to do the right thing - use a bin or take their litter home with them.

Coun Maureen Cummings, Wakefield Council’s cabinet member for environment, communities and poverty, said: “There is absolutely no excuse for the litter that has been left behind in our parks and open spaces over the last few weeks.

“Everyone should be able to visit and leave no trace by making sure they take home any litter.

“We’re working hard to empty the bins as often as we can, but please remember it is everyone’s responsibility to #StoptheDrop, clean up their rubbish and take it home if needed, so that our parks and country parks are a clean and welcoming place for everyone to enjoy.

“No more rubbish excuses - it’s simple, please don’t drop litter.”
