Blacker Hall Farm Shop landed five gold awards at a prestigious national butchers’ competition.
The Calder Grove based business struck gold for its oven-ready products at the 2015 Butchers Q Guild Smithfield Awards in London last week.
It won for its smoked bacon and cheese kievs, chicken crown roast and churasco spatchcock crown roast. And also for two ready meals, lamb meatballs in a tomato and herb sauce, and beef stir fry with fennel and rosemary.
A spokeswoman for the farm shop on Branch Road said: “We have worked hard this year to develop a range of tasty, oven-ready meals, which are quick and easy for our customers to make, but also delicious and nutritious.”
The meals are all prepared by expert butchers using locally sourced or home-reared produce.
Blacker Hall Farm Shop boss Edward Garthwaite said: “We are proud to be constantly developing our butchery range, using the best quality home-reared and locally sourced produce.
“While we know a lot of our customers enjoy cooking from scratch, we also recognise the need for quick meal solutions that not only taste good, but are also nutritious. The dishes on a bed of vegetables also help with reducing food waste, and of course saving time.”
The 29th Smithfield event attracted record entries from butchers across the UK. Q Guild national chairman Mark Turnbull said: “The Smithfield Awards remain one of the most demanding and stringent product evaluation tests in the land.
