Customer service areas in Wakefield One and County Hall will be closed from 6pm today (Tuesday), as Wakefield Council prioritises resources in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

​The customer service areas in Wakefield One and Wakefield County Hall will be closed but the council can still be contacted in a number of ways.

Andrew Balchin, Wakefield Council's Acting Chief Executive, said: "We are prioritising our resources where they are needed the most to enable us to continue providing you with the support you need.

"That is why we have had to make the difficult decision to close customer service points in our buildings.

"We understand that this will have an impact on those that use these facilities, but would like to reassure residents that you will be able to access the same support, but just in a different way.

“The staff are being redirected to help support our other customer services functions so you can also still contact the council by calling 0345 8 506 506, and we can continue to support you.”

Customers needing to contact the revenues and benefits service can do so by calling 0345 8 504 504 (local rate) or emailing [email protected]

Payments for revenues and benefits can also be made at the Post Office or at any Paypoint across the district.

Customers wishing to post their requested documents can do so by using the external mailbox at County Hall.

School Services

Forms for school admissions, school appeals, home appeals, home to school transport and free school meals are available from Wakefield Town Hall or on the council's website.

Wakefield Town Hall

The building will remain open. The Registrars service is open from 9am to 4:30pm.

Mr Balchin said: "We are reacting to an unprecedented situation and will continue to follow the latest Government guidance. We will re-open the customer service points as soon as we are able to do so."
