Hundreds of Wakefield homes without power after string of 'unexpected' power cuts

More than 300 homes have been left without power in Outwood this morning after a string of unexpected power cuts.

Northern Powergrid said they were aware of a power cut affecting 280 homes in the Mountbatten Avenue area, as well as a separate incident on Monkwood Road, which is affecting around 50 properties.

The first power cut was reported at around 1.45am, but is not expected to be resolved until 1pm.

The Monkwood power cut, which is believed to be unrelated, was reported shortly before 7am and Northern Powergrid are hoping to restore power by 10.15am.

Northern Powergrid said that both power cuts had been caused by "an unexpected problem with the electricity cable that serves your area."

Several other power cuts have also been reported this morning, with 40 properties in the dark in the Methley Road area of Castleford, where it is hoped that power will be restored by 12pm.

In Horbury Bridge, around 90 homes have been without power since 2.56am on Monday, while engineers work in the area. It is hoped that power will be restored by 11.30am.

Horbury Bridge has been badly affected by flooding in recent weeks.
