Julie Oldfield was furloughed at the beginning of lockdown, so she turned her hand to baking marvellous creations for the community, while donating the profits to The Prince of Wales Hospice.

Baking was Julie’s way of coping with the lockdown, so she began posting pictures of the buns, cakes and sweet treats she had made on Facebook.

Julie said: “Whenever I’d post a picture of what I’d been baking, friends and family commented that they wouldn’t mind buying them.

“I thought with all the hospice shops being shut during lockdown it would be a good way to raise money for the Prince of Wales Hospice.

“I went through with the idea, my friends and family supported me by donating ingredients.

“I made all sorts, muffins, big chocolate cakes with buttercream filling, Kit Kat birthday cakes and tray bakes.”

In the 12 weeks Julie has been baking, she has racked up £1,000 for the hospice and has also been hosting raffles on their behalf.

She presented them with the cheque on Friday last week.

Julie said: “It all took off very quickly.

“I never expected to raise so much money, I only expected to raise a couple of hundred pounds.

“Now I’m back at work three days a week and baking the other four, I’ve had orders coming in from all over the place.

“As you can imagine, the hospice were so pleased, I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who has joined in with the raffles, donations and buying the cakes.”
